Serving in the altar is a privilege and an honor. Servers should remember that we are in the presence of the Holy Trinity, the Theotokos, the Saints, and God's angels. All actions performed on the altar, movements, and duties must be performed in a pious, reverent, respectful manner.
Orthodox Christian males in good standing are eligible to serve on the altar starting at the age of 10. In order to serve and you must request and be accepted by Fr. Martin and the director of servers.
Once accepted, there is a brief training session to orient you to the procedures and routines used on the altar. You will then be assigned to one of several server teams, rotating each week for the various services. Below are a few important rules to remember when preparing to serve.
- Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the service.
- No white (or multi colored) athletic shoes are allowed. Only dark colored shoes are permitted.
- It is the server’s responsibility to know when he is scheduled to serve. In the event that you cannot serve, please contact Fr. Martin in advance to allow time to notify an alternate.
