The Russian Orthodox Church Abroad is an indissoluble part of the Russian Orthodox Church, and is self-governing on conciliar principles in accordance with the resolution of the Patriarch, the Most Holy Synod, and the Highest Church Council [Sobor] of the Russian Church. The Russian Orthodox Church Abroad is composed of those who are outside the borders of Russia and are guided by the lawful hierarchy of a diocese with their parishes, church communities, spiritual missions and monasteries.
Our parish is a part of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America. The Diocese has its own Pastoral School as well! The Pastoral School of the Chicago and Mid-America Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia is an online Orthodox theological school that provides a forty-eight (48) unit program of study leading to a diploma in either Pastoral Theology or Orthodox Studies.
The Hermitage of the Holy Cross is an English speaking monastery under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in the Diocese of Eastern America and New York. The abbot of the monastery is Bishop George of Mayfield. The monks support themselves by manufacturing hand rolled incense in the ancient Athonite tradition as well as through hand painted icons, homemade soap, and selling other liturgical items and products.
